Finnish heavy metal band formed in 1982 by brothers Marco and Zachary Hietala. The band was originally known as Purgatory (1982–1984). When the band got their record deal, the label wanted the name changed and they became Tarot.
The band's first two studio albums were released in 1986 and 1988, respectively. After that Tarot has been on hiatus many times between the releases, when its members focused on other bands and projects. The most recent studio album was released in 2011, a re-recording of the band's debut album.
After original drummer Pecu Kinnari's death in 2016 and Marco Hietala's withdrawal from the public eye in 2021, it remains unknown if the band will continue.
