Los Saicos

Peruvian Garage/Proto Punk band from Lince, Lima, Perú. (1960-1966) (1969) (2010-Still Active). Erwin Flores (voice and guitar) Rolando "El Chino" Carpio (guitar)† César "Papi" Castrillón (voice and bass) Francisco "Pancho" Guevara (drums and voice)† Los Saicos has come to be considered one of the most original and influential Latin American bands of the 1960s. At that time, the groups tried to imitate the style of British groups and sing in English. However, Los Saicos didn´t follow that line, they decided to sing their own compositions in Spanish and made a unique style. In the summer of 1960; Erwin Flores, César Castrillón and Pancho Guevara met in a rock and roll gang from Lince, called Los Cometas; César Castrillón brought Rolando Carpio (who played with Frank Privette, leader of Los Los Steivos) and they began to meet at his house to listen to songs.. There are many myths about the name Los Saicos, Erwin Flores came up with the proposal that they be called Los Sádicos, but it occurred to them to eliminate the "D" to look like Saicos, referring to the word "psycho" and to Seiko watches, very popular at that time. In one of their rehearsals, they began to play a song they did just for fun, but their producer loved the composition and convinced them to record it. This song was titled "Demolition" and was released in May 1965, is inspired by American surf rock. The band is associated with the discography DisPerú, with which they released 5 "45 R.P.M.", in 1966 they left DisPerú and made a deal with Iempsa, but they settled with the discography "El Virrey" Industrias Musicales S.A., with which the band disbanded when account that it would be one more of the pile. One of his first presentations was at the end of 1964, at the famous Boite del Centro Histórico de Lima, his first television appearance was on Guido Monteverde's program on the old Channel 9, interpreting the song "Come on". In 2010; Erwin Flores, César Castrillón and Pancho Guevara finally got together in Lima, to perform «Cementerio», «Camisa de Fuerza», «Ana», «El Entierro de los Gatos» and «Demolición». Since that presentation, the group came together again and the rock flame resurfaced.

Members: Erwin Flores, César Castrillón, Rolando Carpio, Pancho Guevara
