Lonnie Plaxico

African American jazz bassist, born 4 September 1960 in Chicago.

Review: Bassist Lonnie Plaxico is best known for his work with the Brooklyn-based experimental collective M-Base. His own recordings from the late 1980s and early '90s include appearances by many of the scene's best known practitioners: Steve Coleman, Geri Allen and Greg Osby. However, they tend toward a brand of smooth, synth-heavy Jazz-Funk that's much more conservative than expected.
