Like Alice Cooper, Marjorie Fair is a man, baby! But unlike Cooper, Marjorie Fair (who is actually the talented multi-instrumentalist Evan Slamka) plays romantic baroque pop laced with lovelorn lyrics seemingly inspired by Mark Kozelek. After weaving in and out of various East Coast bands, Slamka moved to LA, and scored a record deal with Capitol Records who hooked him up with some of Beck's session players to craft the delightfully lilting Self Help Serenade.
