This pop icon (and sometime roast chicken salesman) has had an almost unbelievable streak in a career that has thrived for more than thirty years. Rogers first found success in the '60s with the New Christy Minstrels, a Menudo-esque, lite-folk vocal group that also boasts one-time members Roger McGuinn and John Denver. From there Rogers started the First Edition, who had their first hit with Mickey Newbury's "Just Dropped In" a month after signing to Reprise in 1968. After the First Edition broke up, Rogers was a Country Pop hit-maker in the '70s with "The Gambler" and "Lucille," among others. Rogers had his first No. 1 hit with "Lady," a duet with Lionel Richie, and his second with "Islands in the Stream," a duet with Dolly Parton. Rogers continued to have country hits throughout the '80s, as well as a platinum-selling Christmas collection.
