Pop Will Eat Itself It's quite possible that in an alternate universe, the Poppies are hugely wealthy and ridiculously famous for doing what so few had done in the late '80s: fusing hip-hop, House and other beat-laden, drum machine-generated styles with alternative music. They coined the word "grebo" to describe this merger; somehow when you hear the music you realize the word fits perfectly. Their stance was so sleazy and so arrogant, they'd have had a great time with all the money they could have made -- but it wasn't to be. Nonetheless, listening to their ground-breaking album This Is the Day...This Is the Hour...This Is This! is as fun as being locked in a room with a bunch of pint-guzzling, bird-shagging, sample-crazy, beat-frenzied lunatics.
