As a member of radio darlings the Fugees, Wyclef lit up the airwaves in the mid to late 1990s, playing multiple roles as emcee, producer and guitarist. Although it was Lauryn Hill who became the biggest superstar with the Fugees' cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly" and her hugely successful solo album, Wyclef has kept very busy. His 1997 solo debut The Carnival featuring Refugee Allstars experimented with a multitude of styles, went gold, and featured the Bee Gees-inspired hit "We Trying To Stay Alive."
