Jim Lauderdale is a singer-songwriter whose songwriting career has far outstripped his success as a singer. He's been covered numerous times by George Strait, as well as by Vince Gill, Mark Chesnutt, and many other mainstream Nashville hit-makers. However, it's somewhat of a mystery that he has not become a singing star. Lauderdale has a wonderful, soul-inflected voice with a broad range. He is also a kinetic and engaging performer. In a perfect world he would top the charts alongside Brooks and Dunn.
