Indicative of music he heard as a child, Johnny Copeland?Æs music is a blend of the Funk of New Orleans and the Jump Blues of Kansas City. Although he began recording in the late ?æ50s, he didn?Æt begin to attract a following until the early ?æ80s. His fiery delivery and legendary high energy performances earned him the title of the ?ôTexas Twister.?ö Known for his horn-driven swinging sound, Copeland was also able to synthesize African rhythms into his records.
