Laika Records, CDs and CD Singles Laika Laika is the project that Margaret Fiedler chose to begin after leaving Moonshake back in '93. Named for the first dog in space, Laika was a similarly strange animal. Like her previous band, Laika chose to incorporate a multitude of genres onto one slab of vinyl. Dub rhythms, soul-jazz, tight percussion and atonality all come together in a subdued, atmospheric way. With their debut Silver Apples of the Moon, they managed to predate the studio engineered, genre-hopping, DJ-inspired ingenuity of albums like Odelay or Fantasma.
