The Olympics were a tight Soul and R&B act from the late 1950s and '60s who scored only minor hits during their heyday, but experienced longevity thanks to the Northern Soul boom of the early '70s. The singles "Western Movies" and "Baby, Do the Philly Dog" were a constant source of foot-stomping for the Mods and Skinheads who populated clubs in Northern England. The Olympics' career was plagued by confusion (many thought the band was actually a band called the Marathons) and tragedy (member Charles Fizer was killed in the Watts riots of '65). Yet their up-tempo, happy Soul music has kept them busy throughout the years, still entertaining folks at amusement parks nationwide.
