After several years as the pre-eminent source for Dirty South Gangsta Rap, by 2000, No Limit's stranglehold on the charts faced some stiff competition from crosstown rivals Cash Money Records. Hoping to strike while the iron was still hot, mogul/maestro Master P unleashed the 504 Boyz LP, a compilation-style effort featuring a gang of artists repping for the Tank. Showcasing in-house favorites Mystikal, Silkk, and C-Murder and second-string players Krazy, X-Con, and Merecedes, the Goodfellas album did little to convince the skeptics that No Limit was fading fast. They scored a short-lived hit with "Wobble Wobble" and diehard P fanatics were satisfied, but that was about it. Shortly after its release, both Snoop Dogg and Mystikal left the label to find success elsewhere. Ironically, Cash Money's reign on the charts was also short-lived. Both companies, though still active today, are shells of their former selves.
