 Dwight Yoakam Dwight's Used Records

Dwight Yoakam is one of the few original New Country artists of the '80s who has managed to stay his course and enjoy pretty consistent success on famously conservative country radio. This 17-track live album demonstrates the reason for his longevity. While avoiding country's most tired formulas, Yoakam -- working closely with longtime collaborator Pete Anderson -- has always managed to come up with accessible, credible material. "Dwight Live" is definitely a notch above the usual live album. -- DAVID W
This collection of odds-and-ends showcases the Los Angeles country veteran's versatility, and his personality. He imagines "The Loco Motion" -- yes, that one -- as a lost Elvis number, Read More mostly for the better. Yoakam's voice is so assured that he's tough to duet with; Deana Carter doesn't quite succeed on "Waiting," but bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley matches him holler for holler on the Yoakam original "Miner's Prayer.
For a man who reportedly eats nothing but canned corn on tour, ol' Dwight sure knows how to serve up a healthy compilation. This one's chock-full of songs from tribute comps, as well as previously unreleased tracks and duets with divas like Heather Myles and Deana Carter (who admits that she did shave her legs for this).
