Ronald sung hard, and brothers O'Kell y and Rudolph supplied church-inspired backing whoops to his lead . The tunes had catchy titles and creative, rhyming lyrics. This recording is loaded with that rocking, "It's Your Thing" style. " The Blacker the Berry the Sweeter Juice" isn't about fruit but sp eaks of the desirability of dark-complexioned women. "I Turned Yo u On" has a grinding, churning rhythm; "sock it to me" was a catc h phrase at the time and the Isleys included the popular phrase p rominently in the song. "Feels Like the World" is a slow morbid s tatement about one's condition, while "Was It Good to You" is fas t, fluid, and asks the universal lover's question. After years with other labels and fresh off the succ ess of the It's Our Thing album, which included the hit title tra ck, "It's Your Thing", the Isley Brothers celebrated their newfou nd independence by releasing another new album that year with thi s LP. The album yielded the Top 40 pop hit, "I Turned You On" and subsequent charters, "Was It Good to You?" and "Black Berries". It was also their second full venture into funk music, a genre th ey would dominate in the coming years.
