Roustabout (2010 Remaster) © 2010 Sony Music Custom Marketing Gr oup © 1993 RCA Records, Inc. "Viva Las Vegas" 4-Song EP Singl e Originally Released May "Roustabout" LP Originally Releas ed October 20, 2-on-1 "Viva Las Vegas + Roustabout" CD Edit ion Released February 23, 1993 75th Anniversary Remastered CD Ed ition Released January 26, 2010 AMG EXPERT REVIEW: N/A - - RELATED INFO -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- from WikiPedia.or g PRODUCTION (Viva Las Vegas) Recording sessions took place o n July 9, 10, and 11, 1963, at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, Cali fornia. By now film and soundtrack obligations were starting to b ack up on each other, and six weeks after the aborted "lost album " sessions of May 1963, the stable of Presley songwriters were re quired to come up with another dozen songs for yet another new pi cture. Song quality took a back seat to the need for volume, and Presley's filming schedule made it difficult for song publishers to live up to obligations. Memphis Mafia pal Red West had written a "Ray Charles-styled" number, but so little good material had s urfaced that an extra session was scheduled on August 30 for an a ctual Ray Charles song, later released as a single to promote the film with its title song. Twelve songs were recorded for the film, but only six were issued on records. The idea of a full-len gth soundtrack long-playing album was not considered, which has g arnered much criticism from various accounts, including Elvis: Th e Illustrated Record. "Night Rider," "Do the Vega," and a medley "Yellow Rose of Texas/The Eyes of Texas" would be released on Elv is Sings Flaming Star in 1969, and the Neapolitan song "Santa Luc ia" would be placed on Elvis for Everyone. "The Lady Loves Me" wo uld be issued on Elvis: A Legendary Performer Volume 4 in 1983, a nd the duet betwen Presley and Ann-Margret "You're the Boss" on E lvis Sings Leiber & Stoller in 1991. The other duets between the pair in the film, along with Ann-Margret's solo numbers, would wa it until later retrospectives to appear on record. Two songs w ere released as a single, catalogue 47-8360 on April 28, a cover of the Ray Charles rhythm and blues classic from 1959, "What'd I Say," with the film title song "Viva Las Vegas" by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman on the b-side. The strength of both sides caused it t o split the difference on the chart, with "What'd I Say" peaking at #21 and "Viva Las Vegas" making it to #29. The four-song sound track appeared as an extended play single in May of to coinc ide with the film's premiere. The soundtrack EP reached only #92 on the Billboard Hot 100, the lowest-charting release of Presley' s career to this point. RCA had not released an Elvis EP single i n two years; given that it was a dying format, and given the disa strous chart performance of Viva Las Vegas, the company would onl y issue two more for the remainder of Presley's career. -- R ELATED INFO ----------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- from WikiPedia.org PRODUCTION (Roustabout) Roustabout is the twenty-first album b y Elvis Presley, released on RCA Victor Records in mono and stere o, LPM/LSP 2999, in October Recording sessions took place a t Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California, on March 2 and 3, and April 29, It peaked at #1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, and has been certified a gold album by the RIAA. Paymen ts to Presley for each film amounted to between $225,000 to $1,00 0,000 up front, often half the budget for production, with a 50% share of the profits. These movies were being shot in sometimes a s little as three weeks, with the complete scoring and recording of the soundtrack albums taking no more than two weeks. It fell t o Colonel Parker's lieutenant Freddy Bienstock to ensure that the soundtrack songs fit into the profit equation with the publishin g controlled by Elvis Presley Music or Gladys Music, the Hill and Range Publishing companies owned by Elvis and the Colonel. As a result, successful writers such as Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, Oti s Blackwell and Winfield Scott, and Don Robertson lost interest i n adhering to the needs of the grind. It was interlocking self-pr omotion, causing one MGM employee to remark that the movies "didn 't need titles. They could be numbered. They would still sell. Blackwell and Scott in fact submitted a candidate for the title t rack, "I'm A Roustabout" recorded on March 3, only to find it sub stituted by a song from a different team of writers. This recordi ng was eventually released by RCA on the top-selling 2003 compila tion 2nd to None. Presley and his coterie of top session music ians gamely plowed through all of this, and eleven songs were rec orded for the twenty-minute soundtrack LP. Four songs from this a lbum appeared on the 1995 soundtrack compilation: "Roustabout," " Little Egypt," "Poison Ivy League," and "There's A Brand New Day on the Horizon." +------------- (Viva Las Vegas: Elvis 75t h Anniversary 2010 Edition) -------------+ AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW Elvis and Ann-Margret burn up the Las Vegas strip, Janua ry 26, 2010 By hyperbolium (Earth, USA) There are a number of commonly held misconceptions about Elvis Presley's film career : Elvis couldn't act, his movies were all throwaways, and the sou ndtracks were populated entirely with substandard material. But k ey films in the King's catalog show that he could indeed act, if called upon, there are several high-quality dramatic and musical films in Elvis' oeuvre, alongside many good lightweight romantic musical comedies, and his soundtracks are laced with hits and ter rific albums sides. To measure the highpoints of Elvis' soundtrac k catalog by virtue of the low points (of which there are admitte dly many) is to miss out on a valuable dimension of Presley's mus ical career. 1964's Viva Las Vegas was Elvis' fifteenth film, and remains a favorite among fans for the electricity generated between Elvis and co-star Ann-Margret. For once Elvis was matched by an actress who could sing and dance with the same heat he bro ught to the screen, and the film featured some of the best songs that had been written or corralled for an Elvis film vehicle. Wit h all that going for it, it's anyone's guess why RCA so completel y fumbled the soundtrack's release. At the time of the film's deb ut the title track was issued as a single, backed with Elvis' smo king cover of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say," and a four-song EP who se cover is reproduced for this CD. The rest of the soundtrack's songs were scattered among numerous Elvis albums over subsequent months and years, with several (including two duets with Ann-Marg ret) held in the vaults until after Elvis' death. Ann-Margret's t wo solo numbers finally turned up on a Bear Family box set of her recordings. It wasn't until 1993 that a soundtrack album app eared as part of a two-fer pairing Viva Las Vegas with Roustabout . An even more complete version was released in 2003 by the colle ctor's imprint Follow That Dream. Sony's new budget-priced reissu e includes the same twelve titles as the two-fer, but still omits Ann-Margret's solo tracks ("Appreciation" and "My Rival") and th e Forte' Four's "The Climb." Those omissions aside, what's here i s top-notch, from Pomus and Shuman's terrific title song through the sassy closing duet "The Lady Loves Me." In between are many h ighlights featuring brassy blues, tender ballads and fiery vocal performances. Elvis sounds like he was having a lot of fun singin g these tunes, and the dance dynamic between he and Ann-Margret b egat great foot-stompers like "C'mon Everybody" (unfortunately mi ssing the half-tempo coda from the film). A medley of "The Ye llow Rose of Texas" and "The Eyes of Texas" show Elvis could add a spark to standards, and two tunes that didn't make the final fi lm, the guitar rocker "Night Life" and the late-night Ann-Margret duet "You're the Boss," make good additions to the official soun dtrack. A third non-film tune, the Latin dance tune "Do the Vega, " is more of a throwaway. The audio is reproduced in super-wide s tereo with Elvis' vocals sharp and clear at center stage. Sony's reissue features a four-panel booklet and no liner notes discussi ng the music or its making. The 31-minute running time suggests t hat the earlier import two-fer or Follow That Dream's collector's edition might be more compelling to Elvis diehards. Still, the b udget price and remastered sound make this reissue attractive. [© 2010 hyperbolium dot com] AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW The N ew Viva Las Vegas Remaster is a dream come true!!!!, February 13, 2010 By kingofthejungle "TCB" (Memphis, TN) For the first time ever, rock n' roll aficionados are treated to Elvis's best 1 960's soundtrack in stunning sound quality. While most of his soundtrack material is ably covered on Elvis At The Movies, ther e are certain soundtrack albums by the King that need further exp loration. Of his 1960's fare, Viva Las Vegas is undoubtedly the s trongest offering and needs to be heard completely, as it offers some real rocking gems that often get overlooked in the Presley c atalogue. This cd starts off with the Iconic title track, "Viva L as Vegas" and quickly moves into possibly the best-ever cover of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say", rather than simply attempting a stra ight copy of Charles down and dirty hipster-jive as so many other artists have done, Elvis creates quite a different atmosphere th an the Charles original. He speeds it up to a rollicking (but oh- so dancable) pace, and adds a polish that makes the song self-con sciously hip in a very different way from the Charles standard. Following "What'd I Say" is the Red West-penned "If You Think I Don't Need You", a nice rock ditty that finishes a blistering th ree song set before settling into the cool and lonely evening sou nds of "I Need Somebody To Lean On", a jazzy vocal ballad reminis cent of Sinatra's Capitol period. Other album highlights are "C'm on Everybody" and "Night Life", two catchy mid-60's rockers that need alot more rotation than they get, and two duets with Ann Mar garet, a very steamy version of Lieber and Stoller's "You're The Boss" and the infectious back and forth of "The Lady Loves Me". The only real throwaway on the CD in the pointless "Do The Vega ". Even "The Eyes Of Texas" has a certain charm that justifies it 's inclusion. I do however wish that the producers had included " The Climb", a rare Presley-produced R&B number by the Forte Four that makes one wish that he had taken a Sam Cooke-esque turn in t he producer's chair. All in all though it's a great release, in stunning sound- mastered by the ever-amazing Vic Anesini, and is available at a great price. Truly a must-have. AMAZON.CO M CUSTOMER REVIEW Great...for the price....., March 12, 2010 B y M. Reid "BooksonCape-MusiconCape" (Massachusetts) To my ear s, this does not touch the FTD deluxe issue for sound quality-tha t is still the standard. However, this is the first "regular" rel ease of this soundtrack on it's own, and it is great for the pric e. These masters seem to be the ones used for the first vinyl iss ue of this soundtrack back in the 80s. It sounds fine-until you c ompare it to the FTD-which sounds like it was recorded this morni ng. Also-the artwork suffers from a bad transfer-could they not g et access to the same elements used for the FTD release? It looks pale and blurry, and the back contains no additional art, unlike the other budget-priced soundtrack releases from Jan '10. The ha rdcore Elvis collector cannot do without the FTD deluxe version o f this soundtrack-the casual fan will be happy with this. A MAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW For Vic Anesini, who did the excellent remastering on Elvis' new Sony Special Products Soundtrack relea ses..., March 20, 2010 By Michael Slater (Massapequa Park, NY United States) Mr. Anesini, I would like to thank you for doin g such a great job in the re-mastering of the 8 new Elvis Sony Sp ecial Products Soundtrack releases! They couldn't sound better! T hese soundtracks were previously released on CD in the "Double Fe atures" series in the early '90's and the mixing and sound qualit y did not sound very good in most cases, and the stereo separatio n was poor as well. These new CD's sound crystal clear, and the m ix on all of them sound just like they did on the original LP's, which is the way they SHOULD sound! The stereo separation sounds brilliant as well! I would just like to point out one thing: On t he "Fun In Acapulco" CD, the song "El Toro" has a slight break (o r distortion) in the opening intro. I was wondering if this might be due to some kind of fault in the mastering process. I was a l ittle dissapointed, because the rest of the CD sounds absolutely perfect, except for this. This isn't what you would call a major defect, but still, it is a bit annoying to hear it this way. Is t his a problem that could be corrected in future pressings? I doub t that this could be a defect in the original master tape. If you listen to the song on the "Double Features" series, it sounds fi ne. I'm hoping that somehow you will see this message and have th is problem corrected, if at all possible. Anyway, thanks again fo r doing such a great job mastering these CD's and for making them sound so good! I'm hoping to see the rest of Elvis' soundtracks released on CD in the near future, and I hope you will be doing t he re-mastering on them as well! AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW between the Army and the Comeback Special, March 2, 2010 By Jeffrey L. Giltenboth "sloth" (Hilton Head Island, USA) It's r eally not that bad. In fact, this is another instance where 1/2 a star more would be more appropriate. it's really not either a 3 or a 4. One cetainly can understand why it didn't chart though. I t's NOT rock and roll for the most part and it was competing agai nst the 1st year of the Beatles and the Stones, the Beach Boys in their creative prime, the Supremes and the rest of the lynchpins of Motown. The list is voluminous. Plus even Elvis's 45s were we ak; e.g. Bossa Nova Baby, Kissin' Cousins, Witchcraft and Ask Me (I say that even though it was my then girlfriend's and my "song" ) . Viva Las Vegas/What'd I Say (a doublesided single) and Night Life are acceptable rock & roll. That said, Viva LAs Vegas is bet ter done by at least Springsteen and ZZ Top and What'd I Say pale s against Ray Charles. Flip a coin between this and Jerry Lee Lew is's over-rated version. A good 70% of the songs are typical "show" tunes. Songs that when I was 17 (when this was released) w ere representative of the crappy pablum that my parents listened to, trumping my use of the only record player in the house. They highlight Colonel Tom's attempt to ruin Presley's legacy. Having aged , I can now listen to the entire lp without cringing and eve n partially enjoying it. +------------- (Roustabout: Elvis 75th Anniversary 2010 Edition) -------------+ AMAZON.COM CUSTO MER REVIEW Best sounding release yet of this title yet., March 6 , 2010 By M. Reid (Cape Cod, United States) Say what you wi ll about the music...we're here to review the sound quality on th is reissue. This is the most important of the new 2010 Elvis soun dtrack reissues, simply because it sounds vastly better than the previous release(as part of a "Double Feature" CD back in the 90s . That 90s CD was remixed, and not very well. This seems to be a sound-enhanced remaster from the original mix, and the sound is s uperb. Most of the other 2010 reissues are of titles already well -remastered by the Follow That Dream label, so I have not heard a ny others yet. Hard to believe these cheap releases could better the sound of those FTDs (they'd better not!). Kudos to Sony/BMG f or doing this one so well. If you like the soundtrack-this is the issue to own. AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW Hits All the Rig ht Notes, February 16, 2010 By LP Quagmire "The prison has not been built th... Recorded at Radio Recorders, Hollywood, California. Inc ludes liner notes by Roger Semon. Digitally remastered by Dick Baxter (November 1992, BMG Studios, New York). Two soundtracks on one CD. Upon his return from the Army in 1960, Elvis Presle y resumed the successful movie career he had begun in 1956. He sc ored quick successes with two lightweight films, G.I. Blues and B lue Hawaii. These hits, coupled with the commercial failure of Pr esley's efforts at more serious acting, doomed the star to a seem ingly endless series of happy-go-lucky, boy-meets-girl musicals. VIVA LAS VEGAS and ROUSTABOUT are two of Elvis' better movies in this genre, benefiting from strong supporting casts (Ann-Margret in VIVA LAS VEGAS, Barbara Stanwyck in ROUSTABOUT) and better-tha n-average scores. Songwriting giants Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman contributed two songs to VIVA LAS VEGAS: the rhumba-tinged title track, and the jazzy ballad "I Need Somebody to Lean On." Other highlights include "If You Think I Don't Need You" and a cover of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say." The standout track from ROUSTABOUT is Presley's remake of the Coasters hit "Little Egypt." As on all Presley soundtracks, there are also a few clinkers, among them t he infamous "Poison Ivy League" and VIVA LAS VEGAS' "The Lady Lov es Me," a Presley-Margret duet salvaged in the film by the two st ars' visual interplay. AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW (2-on-1) Worth a listen for the open minded, September 2, 2001 By Harle y P. Payette (Phillipsburg, New Jersey United States) This rev iew is from: Viva Las Vegas (1964 Filma) / Roustabout (1964 Film) (Audio CD) Elvis' soundtrack recordings are generally consider ed the nadir of his career but the truth is that his singing unti l at least 1965 was generally superb and whenever he was given ha lf a chance he always came through. This CD is exhibit "A". On the "Viva Las Vegas" end, Presley is given a few decent tunes fo r once and turns in what would have been one of the period's most interesting albums,if this had been released as an album. You wo uld never guess it from the film's camp reputation but Presley tr ies new things here. "Viva Las Vegas", which contains some of his most dramatic singing, is as good a mixture of swing and rock an d roll as anything Bobby Darin ever did. That it's often dismisse d as just another goofy movie song is unforgiveable. For Doc Pomu s' lyrics, alone that capture the essence of the city, the song i s a classic. The best ever remake of "What'd I Say" features the largest arrangement Presley had ever used up to that time. Driven by furious drumming from Hal Blaine who pounds his tom toms in a high speed endless roll and an ecstatic vocal by Presley, this i s the only version that even comes close to Ray Charles. "I Need Someone to Lean On" is an intimate Frank Sinatra style saloon tun e, also new territory for Presley. In more familiar areas "C'mon Everybody" and "If You Think I Don't Need You" are first-rate dan ce numbers and the duet with Ann Margaret on "You're the Boss" is thrillingly raunchy(you can feel their chemistry), far better th an the original by Jimmy Ricks and Laven Baker. Much of the rest is standard movie fare but delivered with Presley's usual aplomb. Roustabout is a bit of a different story. The material is wea k, some of Presley's vocals seem a little rushed and it sounds li ke it was recorded in a canyon. Still, even here there are moment s including a first-rate pop rock number in "One Track Heart" and a fine but very close to the original remake of the Coasters' "L ittle Egypt". Plus "Hard Knocks" and "Big Big Love Heartache" are better than passable. Making all of the material a little mo re acceptable is the packaging which contains photos from the fil ms (though not many) and session information. It's intelligent bu t not all it could be. The sound throughout features a little too much echo. (On Roustabout this can be attributed to the original recording conditions.) Also more detail in the liner notes would have been appreciated. Finally, it wouldn't have killed BMG to s tuff a few hooks in here for collectors. Except for the previousl y released duets there are no rarities. Given the brief length of the album (53 minutes) there was plenty room for an alternate ta ke or two especially the terrific movie version of "C'mon Everybo dy" which is still unreleased. Overall though this is a must f or fans, while the casual listener will be challenged but also re warded. AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW (2-on-1) Two Fine Crowd Pleasers in a Neat Package, April 18, 2000 By plsilverman (US A) This review is from: Viva Las Vegas (1964 Filma) / Roustabo ut (1964 Film) (Audio CD) The real standout in the double-featu re series, VLV/R provides mostly above-average songs and performa nces. Whatever compelled Mr. Presley to rise to the occasion on t he "Viva..." session (perhaps his three contemporaneous duets wit h Ann-Margret?), the results are outstanding for the period - his voice is noticeably stronger than on the "Lost Album" sessions f rom about two months earlier, especially on the energetic title t une, which deserved a higher placement, and, really, the whole "V iva" set which deserved an actual long play release, not just a s ingle and E.P. Collectors please note the many first-time stereo tracks and "You're The Boss" with a different ending from the fir st issue. (Thanks RCA, uh, when will we have the MOVIE version of "C'mon Everybody" and the still unreleased duet of "Today, Tomor row, and Forever"? Just kidding). And now on to "Roustabout", ano ther enjoyable listen. I think many fans would agree that the mat erial and the singing is somewhat less impressive than on the afo rementioned entry, but listen to Elvis wail on two '50s-styled ro ckers (featuring Mr. Boots Randolph doing *his* thing) - it ain't bad! Both soundtracks and movies will not serve the '50s purists ; but the rest of us can enjoy two very respectable efforts. AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW (2-on-1) The "Viva Las Vegas" half is essential movie Elvis, June 18, 1999 By Don Barrie (Toronto , Canada) This review is from: Viva Las Vegas (1964 Filma) / R oustabout (1964 Film) (Audio CD) This two-fer, however would ha ve gotten more stars if the songs on "Roustabout" weren't so weak . "Viva Las Vegas" remains one of the King's most popular films, and Elvis sounded like he actually enjoyed recording the songs fo r that film. The two duets with Ann-Margret (one of which made it into the film) are raw and sexy, showing the respect and chemist ry they had together. The only dog track is "Do the Vega," which was thankfully cut. "Roustabout," unfortunately, has little going for it, except for the title track and for Elvis' admirable take on Lieber & Stoller's "Little Egypt." Most of the songs are abou t carnivals and circuses, and at the end of "Carny Town," there i s evidence of Elvis' frustration and impatience of having to tack le more empty-headed drivel ("We've gotta end!..."). It seems mys terious that the "Roustabout" album went to #1 in early 1965, whi le "Vegas" was delegated to being an EP, since the former did not produce any hits. Now all the songs and outtakes from these film s are on this CD. The title track of "Vegas" remains an Elvis cla ssic. AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW (2-on-1) Viva/Vegas remai ns strong, but is pulled down by Roustabout, October 12, 1999 B y A Customer This review is from: Viva Las Vegas (1964 Filma) / Roustabout (1964 Film) (Audio CD) The first half of this albu m is masterfully done and contains a wide variety of beautiful so ngs. However, the songs from Roustabout leave much to be desired. A couple of the songs are nicely done, especially Little Egypt, but generally the songs are cheesy carnival songs that are truly an embarrassment to Elvis' career. Even with Roustabout any veter an Elvis lover should have buy this album. AMAZON.COM CUSTO MER REVIEW (2-on-1) Best of the Soundtracks, August 15, 2009 B y Paul D. Langley (Northern Virginia) Too often Elvis was giv en second and third rate material to sing in his movies. With thi s set he show what he can do with decent material. He delivers th e goods, and this disk is enjoyable even if you have not seen the movies. Star songwriters, Leiber & Stoller, Doc Pomus & Mort Shuman, and Ray Charles are some of the contributors here. Elvis , still in fine voice hits the notes and delivers true performanc es. I haven't taken the disk out of the player in the past week! Downside--The disk is discontinued so you are looking at buyi ng used or from an outside seller. It figures they would disconti nue the best of the double packs. (Side note--it is almost crimin al what they have done with Elvis' material in marketing) It is w ell worth purchase though. Ann Margaret turns in 2 enjoyable duet s also. The material on Roustabout is not equal to Viva Las Vegas , but is still head and shoulders above most of the other soundtr acks. I am giving it 5 stars. While you can argue that it jus t misses and deserves 4, I remind you that these are soundtracks, not pure Elvis performances. Compared to other soundtracks they are easily 5 star products, and as a set they belong in every Elv is collection. No matter your age, you should enjoy this. AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW (2-on-1) Great soundtracks--up ther e with GI Blues, June 24, 2007 By Michael Healy (Steubenville, Ohio USA) This review is from: Viva Las Vegas (1964 Filma) / Roustabout (1964 Film) (Audio CD) Many other reviews here pay h omage to Viva Las Vegas, and rightly so. However, I have to stron gly disagree with those who underappreciate Roustabout. This is o ne of the best soundtracks, with only two clunkers--Carny Town an d It's Carnival time. The other nine songs are great, the title t une plus Little Egypt, Poison Ivy League, Hard Knocks, and One Tr ack Heart--all great rockers. The other four include some good lo ve songs and likeable swing-type songs. One review mentioned in p assing that this album hit #1. That was in November, which w as the very height of the "British Invasion" when American artist s were being pushed off the charts. To my knowledge, only Blue Ha waii and GI Blues hit #1 among the 60's soundtracks. The fact tha t Elvis could be #1 in late 64 is extraordinary and a testimony t o how good this album had to be. It is definitely better than Blu e Hawaii and a close second to GI Blues among the soundtracks. Th is combo with Viva Las Vegas is great. AMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW (2-on-1) I'm just a devil with love to spare., April 28, 2005 By Johnny Heering "trivia buff" (Bethel, CT United States ) This CD features the soundtracks to two Elvis movies release d in Viva Las Vegas is one of the best Elvis soundtrack s of the '60s. The title song is an absolute classic, although it was one of his least successful singles at the time (the flip si de, "What'd I Say", actually charted higher). The other songs on the soundtrack are also pretty good. There are two cute duets wit h co-star Ann-Margret. "I Need Somebody to Lean On" and "Today, T omorrow and Forever" are good ballads. And "If You Think I Don't Need You" and "C'Mon Everybody" are fun, lightweight rockers. But there are a few clunkers here. "Do the Vega" is mediocre and the "Texas Medley" is downright awful. Overall, I would give this so undtrack 4 stars. Roustabout, on the other hand, is not a goo d soundtrack. Most of the songs are terrible. It's worth noting t hat none of these songs were considered good enough to be release d as a single. "Poison Ivy League" and "Big Love Big Heartache" a re typical of the junk Elvis was often coerced into recording for soundtracks. But I do kind of like "Roustabout, "One Track Heart " and the cover of the Coasters' "Little Egypt". Those songs save the soundtrack from being totally worthless. I would give this s oundtrack 2 stars. Average out the 4 stars Viva Las Vegas sou ndtrack and the 2 stars Roustabout soundtrack, and you get a 3 st ars CD.
