Grading:
We try to follow strictly the Goldmine grading scheme from Near Mint (NM) to Poor (P) for all records. Most items are cleaned and play graded with the use of headphones(LP's with a good stylus). We use plus (+) and minus (-) gradings to indicate slight deviations from a grade. If condition is questionable I grade lower.
SS: Still sealed- Assumed to be new and un-played.
Near Mint (NM or M-): A nearly perfect record, showing no obvious sign of wear. May have scuff marks from removal from paper sleeve. A 45 rpm sleeve has no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. An LP jacket has no creases, folds, seam splits or any other noticeable similar defect. No cut-out holes, either. The same is true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, and the like.
Very Good Plus (VG+): Shows some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. A slight noise at the beginning is acceptable but the remainder should be nearly flawless. 45's will have very little noise from intro to fade. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but is should be barely noticeable. The center hole is not misshapen by repeated play. Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turn-up corners, or a slight seam-split. An LP jacket may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount.
Very Good (VG): Many of the defects found in a VG+ record are more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise is evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during the song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. May have more pronounced warpage but will not affect play. 45's will have some noise at intro and fade and quiet in the middle. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.
Good (G), Good Plus (G+): Good does not mean bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear. A jacket or sleeve has seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object. 45's will have considerable noise at the intro and fade and somewhat quieter in middle.
Poor (P), Fair (F): The record is cracked, badly warped, and won't play through without skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on all three seams and heavily marred by wear and/or writing. The LP jacket barely keeps the LP inside it. Inner sleeves are fully seam split, and written upon.
Good (G)Fair (F) and Poor (P) are in stock until a better copy is available. I do not have the heart to throw these in the dumpster, so I offer some of them free with purchase. Usually those priced below $1.99. These of course are non returnable.
I also note any other condition problems where necessary. Abbreviations separated by slash indicate COVER/RECORD. Multi-LP’s are averaged by single abbreviation. Cover conditions are noted whenever possible and especially if it differs significantly from actual LP, and price is adjusted if necessary. I also note any other condition problems where necessary.
CD GRADING: Insert/Disc
SS- CD is still in shrink and assumed to be in new condition.
Near Mint (NM) : CDs in this condition look like they were just opened and played once.
Disc - not even light scuffs are visible, even if the disc is held at an angle to the light.
Covers - the booklet and inserts are all present and look almost untouched.
Very Good Plus (VG+): : CDs in this condition look used, but like they were taken good care of.
Disc - only a few very light scuffs can be seen when the disc is held at an angle to the light.
Covers - the booklet and inserts are present and have only a few very minor flaws such as a slight bend or light fingerprints.
Very Good (VG) : CDs in this condition are more for listening to than collecting.
Disc - the disc has only very light scratches, but there may be quite a few of them.
Covers - the booklet and inserts are present and will have some but not all of the following: fingerprints, worn corners, smudges, creases, case dimple marks, and writing.
Good (G) : Disk has heavy scratches but will play without skipping or repeating.
I do not grade cases because these can always be replaced.
I also note any other condition problems where necessary.
CASSETTES:
NOTE: All opened cassettes are play graded
SS- Sealed and assumed to be in new condition
NM- Cassette plays perfect with no lost sound quality. Writing is crisp. Inserts are present and look untouched.
VG+- Cassette plays excellent but sound is not as crisp as new. No complete washout areas. Writing on cassette may show a little sign of wear. Inserts have very few flaws.
VG Cassette plays but may have a few partial washouts. Writing on cassette may have moderate wear, insert may have some creases or tears
VG- or below - do not usually offer these on site but may have some in the store. Email with any requests you may have.
I do not grade cassette cases because these can easily be replaced.
45 NOTES:
Discs are packaged in generic paper sleeves (GS) unless otherwise noted.

I welcome your emails for a full description of any item listed at any time. Everyone has opinions for grading so I would like to be sure we agree before item is shipped.
