| Habib Faye (bassist, componist en Grammy-genomineerd producer) is al 25 jaar het muzikale brein achter de band van Youssou N'Dour. Vanaf 1986 arrangeerde en produceerde hij de meeste platen van de groep. Hij is echter zelf ook een zeer getalenteerd bassist, die bekend staat om zijn percussieve stijl. Hij mag o.a. Brandford Marsalis en Joe Zawinul tot zijn fans rekenen, hij heeft bovendien gewerkt met alle groten in de jazz n in de wereldmuziek. Zijn invloed op Senegalese muziek is niet te onderschatten. Nu is er dan een eerste solo-album, dat een aanstekelijke mix is van Afrikaanse ritmes met flinke jazz-invloeden is. De gastenlijst is indrukwekkend: o.a. Youssou N'Dour, Angelique Kidjo, Julia Sarr en Idrissa Diop. Faye's spel op de fretloze bas is bijzonder! Zeer sterk album. |
