Religious Music

There is religious music that has been composed throughout the years to complement any religion and many of the composers were influenced by their own particular beliefs. In addition, many forms of traditional music have been adapted to fit in with specific religions’ ideals. There is a long history of Christian Church music. Johann Sebastian Bach, considered one of the most important and influential European classical music composers, wrote most of his music for the Lutheran church. In short, religious music is performed and composed specifically for religious use and religious influence and it is fair to state that every geographical region and every religion in the world has its own type of religious music.

There is a long history of Christian church music, some written for the Catholic faith, Lutheran faith, and Baptist faith, among others. One important element about religious music is that the music often changes to fit the times. Whereas the songs and hymns that were written and sang in the time that Jesus was on the earth and going forward to the Middle Ages and even further to today’s music, although the methodology may have changed, the intrinsic nature of the content has not; it is all about the celebration of faith and belief.

For instance, Contemporary Christian music, defined as Christian music that has been written over the last two thousand years to express a common belief, has adapted and evolved to include the basic common themes of worship, praise and penitence and can vary from country to country in both form and indigenous nature. It can be divided into the classic form of hymns with organ accompaniment or even Christian pop or Christian rock. Gospel music has always been eclectic and was easily changed to include elements of funk and soul into the music.

So, regardless of the instrumentation that is used, whether it is a Jewish or Orthodox hymn, a classic Gospel song or even Christian pop, religious music is all about the celebration of one’s faith.
