I'm curious what guilty secrets people have on here regarding their music favorites?

How many prog rock fanatics out there like a bit of cheesy disco, or, Metallica fans enjoy Vivaldi?

I've had a heavy rocker regularly buy my Bucks Fizz records (something I never thought I would sell), but he loves it and collects it... whether it is with a capital I for Irony... I can't be sure...

I personally find many of the novelty releases to be highly entertaining even though they often miss out on any musical integrity.

So peeping Tom wans to peek in my closet......all right (no futher coments on tha one.....:)).

Well lately I´ve found classical music, to be the order of the day (increasingly so) Chopin, Bach, Schostakowich to name a few...........but what have we here...?!......the three degrees....?!....and whats this...The Bee Gees (nothing like a little Saturday night fever, mirrorball and all).....Oh my! If I look hard enough I´m sure i´ll find a Danish "European Schlager festival"-thing in there as well...... Guilty as charged..:).
Being scandinavian and all, one would expect to find at least 1 or 2 Abba things in there. Strangly enough there is`nt any.......... .I think my Abba-receptores got completly "fried off" when I was a teenager, you know, back in Abba real-time.....-or was at their 15´th or 16´th revival...., I´m not quite sure.

No seriously I really do believe that there`s quallity somewhere in all genres. Theres a reason why "this kind of music" survives. They`re doing something somewhere thats right.

Johnny.

Herb Alpert! A $0.25-$1.00 score at any thrift store! Just don't pay $20.00 for sealed copy of Whipped Cream, which I have heard many people who collect Herb Alpert do! Yeah, it's cheese for sure, but hey, you might agree that it does go much better in a dinner type setting with candle lights for sure! That probably might not be disputed? Whatever the case, for some unforeseen reason I can't seem to, or just won't part with my Herb Alpert records!

Laugh all you want, but man, that stuff is total chick magnet music, especially when you make a mix CD from off of your records that has all of the slower, less bombastic material. And yes, Herb can go a bit over the top, especially with his goofy stuff like,"Tijuana Taxi".

Oh, and yes, I did forget to mention that I do like the occasional Sergio Mendes record too! Would it be of any coincidence if I were to tell you he was signed by Herb Alpert's A&M records? C'mon guys, don't deny it now! I thought you already knew that now? Uh huh I caught you in a denial/lie! You know these records! Don't deny! Lmfao

but when the mood strikes me, I love to listen to Roger Whittaker!
I dare any of you to NOT sing along to Durham Town or Mammy Blue!

Guilty Secrets? Waaay too many. Top of my regular taste would be Spacerock, Psychedelic 60s up to now, some Prog but not much, Ambient, Stoner, Garage, Psycho - Rockabilly, Oriental Wierd etc. But lurking underneath there I have a grudging respect for pop bands that really put in the effort, i.e. Blondie, 10cc, some of the 80s new wave bands etc. Also Classical music hits the button. I often play Beethovens 9th Symphony at neighbour annoying volume just for fun. Hate rap with a passion but then can't find much wrong with The Streets, a British rap band plus the rap cover of Every Breath You Take is pretty much ok. As JBJ says, every genre will have quality somewhere. And VJ, couldn't agree more about Sergio Mendes. He had his psychedelic moments. BB, nail on the head with Roger. often play his early South African Afrikaans albums. The man had talent. Guess top of my list for guilty secrets would be girl bands of the 60s, The Ronnettes, The Shirrelles, The Essex etc up to Jap nutcases Shonen Knife or else stupid novelty records like The Stargazers - Close The Door. You can check that one out on You Tube.

My usual response is "I like everything from Alison Krauss to Alice in Chains", but I am pretty ashamed of my Chuck Mangione Live at the Hollywood Bowl LP's. Sure, he is no Miles I guess, but I used to play trumpet back when he was popular and it sounds really good, so sue me.

I think if you don't like a little something from everything you are being close minded. My favs are The Who, Springsteen, The Kinks, Van Morrison, The Band, etc, but I like to hear a little California Love every now and again and nothing wrong with a bit of the 1812 Overture and as far as opera Carmen is pretty good in places.

I guess it really depends on which group of friends, too. Some that get California Love wouldn't understand 1812 at all, and a lot of my high brow might turn their nose at Get Up John by Ricky Skaggs (my text notification on my phone). Its a lot like my closet, I have bib overalls hanging next to an Armani suit. No really.

I'm with you Ken - I have a very broad taste in music, from Beethoven to Beatles to ZZ Top to Merle Haggard. But I have to admit that when I bought my ABBA Greatest Hits, I waited until no one else was around the cash register when I checked out!

I forgot to mention early Statler Brothers, it just brings back a simpler time when I was a kid (first concert I attended when I was only a pup) and reminds me of my dad who loved them. Trouble is it sure makes me miss him, hard to believe its been 10 years....
Hey John, I think everyone likes Abba a bit deep down, but they sure don't want their friends to know!

Durham Town - Sitting on the banks of the Tyne. Wonder if Roger has ever been to Durham.
