I just bought a copy of Rush all the worlds a stage
on the back cover the sequence is side 1,2,3,4 but on the
vynils allthough they are labled 1,2,3,4 there really
side 1 is side 1
side 2 is side 4
side 3 is side 2
side 4 is side 3
I don't know about that particular title but in the "old days" double albums used to be made with side 1 and 4 on record 1 and sides 2 and 3 on record 2. A lot of people back then used record changers. The double albums were made that way so that you could stack the records. Record 1 would drop and play side 1, record 2 would drop and play side 2. Then flip both over without changing the order and record 2 would drop and play side 3, record 1 would drop and play side 4. Later when we all got more "high end" conscience and used turntables without changers we would play one record at a time. So they started manufacturing double albums with record 1 with sides 1 and 2 and record 2 with sides 3 and 4.
So it sounds like you got a set with screwed up labels but the vinyl was pressed in the old style.

thanks john..
actually the labels are labeled 1,2,3,4
even though disc 1 side 2 is labled as side 2 and
has working man ,finding my way printed on the label ,its actually
the last side side 4..
so infact they are all marked as side1 2 3 & 4 but
its actually the 1,4,2,3 sequence but not indicated that way on the lables..
i found that pretty odd..
Brian, as a follow-up I found out that the original release is 1976 so it likely followed the old sequence.
This from Wikipedia:
"With regard to records, most double album sets have sides 1 and 2 back to back on the first disc, followed by sides 3 and 4 on the second disc, etc. The record industry term for this practice is "Manual Sequence". However, some double album LP sets have sides 1 and 4 pressed on one disc along with sides 2 and 3 on the other. This practice, known as "Automatic Sequence", began in the early 1960s and was intended to make it easier for listeners to play through the entire set in order on automatic record changers. The use of Automatic Sequence gradually declined during the 1970s as automatic record changers fell out of favor. High quality manual turntables became more affordable and are often preferred because they cause less record wear.
After a company decided on manual or automatic sequence, production of that title generally stayed in the same configuration indefinitely. Notable examples of albums using Automatic Sequence include the 1968 Reprise Records release, Electric Ladyland, by Jimi Hendrix which was still sold in Automatic Sequence well into the late 1980s. Other common examples include Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton, Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder, and Quadrophenia by The Who."
So again, my guess is that the vinyl was pressed with "automatic sequence" and labels were put on assuming "manual sequence."

When was the original release of this Rush album? I can't remember.
Hi John,

thats the format most bands do when they put out a live lp..
like the stones every 3 studio lps the 4th is a live one...
ive seen this lp before and never have i seen it labled as 1,4,2,3 sequence..
my copy is the murcury label there was also a black murcury label and Anthem records
label and also a gatefold cover and a non opening cover but ive never heard of
any sequence pressed in any other order than 1,2,3,4.

Brian,.
This is a quite common mispressing of the original USA issue of All The World's A Stage in the triple gatefold sleeve. My old copy is exactly the same. Most of the original pressings were pressed this way before the mistake was corrected on later issues.
i figured that what happend was at most pressing factorys
the lps are pressed first and the jackets put together after..
usually people didnt really check or notice the batch error that the lps
were labled as 1,2,3,4 just like the back cover track list but infact the vynil
were the 1,4,2,3 sequence.. ooooops...!!!
