I guess what i can say about KISS in 2011 is they Still Rock..
the shows are great the current members besides stanley and simmons
fit the bill.. tommy thayer is a great guitarist and i think at the stage
ACE was at in 77 with the amazing performances of Shock ME.. hes
able to do ACEs stuff but more importantly also does his own solos..
and has actually been with the band in some ways for years..but a lot of
people dont know that..
eric Singer is a great drummer..having the background of playing with
black sabbath and alice cooper and also being a die hard kiss fan..he fit
the bill to replace peter...

its staggering to think that i was 17 years old listening to
rock in roll all nite... and 30 years later.. sonic boom is out
and the tour.. and gene at over 60 years old is still doing the blood spitting
and paul is still rock and rolling.. and the band in the current unit
is selling out venues for the last few years with the alive 35 tour/sonic boom...

kiss is still alive!!

well in response to VJ...

so Vj states that KISS is not kiss without Ace and peter..

sure thats correct the Vintage loved KISS is the original line up...
but let us not forget that the other line ups had major success with
songs like Lick it UP and Heavans on Fire, god gave rock n roll to you..

sure its not the originals but kiss is a Family...
like the unplugged lp..they brought out ACE and PETER to perform
with Kulic and eric singer..

and yes the 80 sucked just like the stones putting out floppers
like dirty work.. and kiss putting out animalize and asylum...

both bands tried to put out a current format but they flopped..

but they got back on track.. KISS finally put out sonic boom and im thinking
they wanted really to be like the destroyer era but give it a 2011 feel making
it classic kiss without copying the destroyer album..

given the years and ages of KISS and the Stones..i think for guys in
thier 60s they still do a damm good job..

Well Brian, from 1979's Disco suck ass album, "Dynasty", all the way up until now, I honestly do have as of yet to hear a REALLY GREAT KISS album! The only solo album out of the four solo's from 1978 that were any good was Ace Frehley's solo album. Besides the ridiculous cover hit version of "New York Groove", Ace really hit his stride and made a solo album that was the best out of the other three members solo efforts, and probably thee best of his entire career! Bar none, not even any of the Frehley's Comet albums could even come close! It was right after those solo efforts that the band I feel in my opinion to this day was when they truly fell apart and was never the same!

The album "Unmasked" from 1980 wasn't too bad, but by no means was it up to par either. When listening to that album, one can clearly hear a band who is artistically suffering major and is full of fatigue! Then after "Unmasked", enter the album, "The Elder". That album was very much so largely the biggest reason for Ace Frehley's departure. Ace hated that album so much that he literally flung a copy of that record across the room and cracked it! Honestly, after this, it was all over for KISS, and in spite of some ill fated attempts a some reunions with the original members, it just is no longer a happening thing! They should have quit when they were at their peak, instead of burning out when they did. And, if your going to make an album with your band, for Pete's sake, take the time out to put a little more effort toward it and make it a good effort, not something half assed! In the end, KISS after the 70's, turned out to just be a bunch of wankers, being a shadow of their former past glories, with no current successful glories to show for it......

Oh, and one more thing I hated about KISS in the 1980's was the fact that instead of being trend setters as opposed to being followers, they instead chose to follow the route of MTV and pop based glam/hair metal that was so prevalent by the mid 80's from bands in the Los Angeles scene! Definitely not what KISS was originally about, and most certainly was NOT my cup of tea! Jumping on the bandwagon, so to speak, is no better than being a poser or a wanker!! In other words: KISS were not only spent, but they were also truly sold out! I am sure that there must've been some truly hardcore KISS fans that were not too pleased with this direction when the 80's came, and they quite possibly lost/sacrificed a lot of their original fans when choosing to go the direction they did..........

Vj,... ill agree with you 100 percent on that.. the Asylum lp was an awful
cover making the band look like hair metal or new wave..

but i will say that psycho circus and Sonic Boom and Revenge are good albums..
i know the crap after unmasked was shitty compared to the vintage kiss of hotter than hell
and dressed to kill..but those 80s lps were just the same as the stones lps
of sucking in the seventies, tattoo you, dirty work, steel wheels..

most anyband in that time was struggling..
good example alice coopers string of Flops as well as all the lps Tony martin did with
Black Sabbath.. Flopper-ronis...

the KISS solo LPS...

VJ.. PAUL STANLEYS SOLO IS VERY VERY GOOD..
I KNOW ACES WAS BEST NO DOUBT..AND FREHLEYS COMET DIDNT COME NEAR IT
BUT ACES LAST SOLO ALBUM ANOMILY IS CONSIDERED TO BE HIS BEST IN YEARS
AND BETTER THAN KISS SONIC BOOM..

Gene and peter never put out any thing good..
Genes solo lp is ok but nothing after..he did a few cds but they are crap
and Peters last shit was just disturbing..

LOUNGE MUSIC???? what the f---- was that all about
the Catman from kiss doing a solo album with elevator music.. it just gives me chills..

Yeah, Gene and Peter never really could put anything out that has merit. You are right about Peter Criss last solo album....That album not only sucked, but it was totally out of line characteristically speaking with ANYTHING that he would have been previously associated with regarding KISS! The last Peter Criss solo effort makes all of the other past albums he did, as awful as they were too, sound like classics up against that piece of crap! One thing that could be said though, is that anyone who is wanting to hear another side to Peter Criss, just listen to that last solo effort and you will get more than what you bargained for! File the last Peter Criss solo effort under: "Pat Boone-In A Metal Mood"! LMFAO

My first actual KISS CONCERT was with Blue Oyster Cult! It was their Destroyer album which was a pretty quality piece of work. They were stunning live! The stage show is of course legendary! I'm not going to go into all the details but if you believe that a live concert is a audio and visual experience these guys are one of the best in the business....
Next up was their LOVE GUN TOUR! All I can say as business as usual except Peter Criss had a huge lifter under his drum kit that raised it up to about 25 feet into the air reveling a huge picture of a cat on a black background! Very very cool to see when your a teenager...
I saw the band twice more and again did not let my soaked to the bone with sweat body down!
The Kiss albums 1 through about 6 were all pretty heavy duty hard rock songs!
Their Rock and Roll Over album had some kick ass songs on it!
The first live album was off the wall and yes they went back in and touched up the live show who cares!
I don't care what anyone says the band is one of the best flat out rock bands in the nation!

well said one step..

ive seen kiss 4 times, lick it up,psycho circus, alive 35,sonic boom
and they always deliver!! from ace frehley to tommy thayers guitar solos
and pauls singing love gun and strutter..to love it loud and gene doing
god of thunder..to eric singer doing like peter criss with the floating drum kit..

i think my memory was aces shock me with the shooting fireworks guitar..
as tommy does also..
and there was the hot in the shade tour with the pyramid and the creatures of the night
with the tank onstage..

kiss delivers..you wanted the best you got the best as they say...

Ace also did a blistering guitar solo near the end the guitar starts smoking big time and then if memory serves me he lets go of it and it raises up to the top of the stage lighting........I also saw the fabled fireworks shooting out of Aces guitar!
