Is Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town " one of the classic rock songs of all time? I say yes. I heard a very very talented band cover it last Saturday evening and it was kick ass from start to end!

I saw Thin Lizzy playing with Graham Parker and the Rumour in 1977 at the Orpheum in Boston. I may have been the only person in the crowd that couldn't decide which band ought to be the headliner. The Lizzies had a great twin guitar sound at that time - the Jailbreak lp and the next one - Bad Reputation, were both hard rock at its best (there's a heck of a lot more examples of hard rock at its worst IMHO). And Parker had just put out Stick To Me and it was still a year before Elvis Costello would come along and start making every talk about how Parker sounded like HIM.

Anyway, Boys Are Back definitely is damn good, especially given the emasculated times in which it came out - Fleetwood Mac and Peter Frampton topping the charts and all... Not sure how much attention I'd have paid it if it came out after 1977, though.
