....ordering a 40 plus year old vinyl, from fleabay even, graded nm and getting it in and it looks brand new. I know I have complained a lot, but this was sweet. It was Tommy by The Who for only $9 shipped. It was a Decca pressing so I was expecting surface noise, but it was minimal. I hear the Simply Vinyl is a better pressing, but for now I am very happy. I guess the purpose of the post is to let VJ know I am not a chronic complainer.....

Well, my only comment to your post Ken is, this more than confirms my opinion that you should always try to purchase the original pressings first before looking into the reissues.

Yours truly,

Yes Brian. I do find the drums & bass to be more punchy on the Decca issue than the MCA issue, where the drums & bass seem muffled or muddy, and less punchy......

I find happiness is the purchasing of something you don't know... a strange and obscure looking vinyl at a thrift shop, garage sale or your local record shop... something about it makes you feel excited there is something wonderful in that groove...
... you scurry home... and read the sleeve again... just to make sure you haven't overlooked anything... and also to get a real feel for what might come through your speakers...

... then... slowly... you lower the needle... past the initial light static crackle... it goes silent... and then... ... ... ...

Now that's the point you slump back in your chair, holding that large LP sized artwork, a big smile, nodding to yourself, another great find.

... sometimes it's not what you expect... but that is also part of the adventure.

It's nice to buy a perfect Beatles album or a mint Jimi Hendrix... but totally sweet to hear something that blows your mind that you've never heard before... the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

About a year ago i was at a flea market and eye spied a grand funk gold album for $5.
I already have the black press and the gold so i figured what the heck i have a 50/50 shot at either so i bought it without looking.when i got around the corner and removed the album from it's cover i was surprised to find a gold disc w/brown swirls, i do not know what i have but i have it. (the album is exc. condition)

Happiness is.........

Getting a new/sealed vinyl record that isn't warped or scratched, due to manufacturer's defects........

Happiness is.........

When sellers/dealers describe their vinyl, according to how it is graded, and is actually received near mint.........

Happiness is........

Knowing that you actually won a valuable vinyl recording that you have been seeking out for a long time that you needed for your record collection, and got it of for an excellent price at an auction, then found out that in a better economy goes normally for $100.00, and you just won it for $20.00 near mint!

Happiness is.........

Is the anticipation of waiting for that special package that has not arrived in the mail, and you are anticipating it's arrival, and when it comes you are happy!

And finally...........

Happiness is..........

Knowing the greatest secret of all that few people understand, outside of your record collecting circle: vinyl just sounds better, and the artwork is something very much to be savored like a juicy steak!

Finding a record that you can no longer buy, except for some overinflated Ebay price, like I did last Friday on my RDO, and the record store owner had never heard the record or even heard of the band, nut now I have something I have been looking for for some time, it's used with a few minor surface marks, but other than that it sounds great and cost me $5.

Cheers
