It would be nice if this collection is issued on vinyl instead. To me, cd remaster/reissues are a corporate inside job from major record companies to make people spend more money, needlessly. Then, what the record companies do is just boost the recording volume on the cd, call it a remaster in disguise, and repackage it on the crappy cd format of music you already own on vinyl.

I have all the great early albums from the 70's. Forget the 1980's, I wouldn't want to own those anyway, let alone on any collection, being that the material wasn't half as much up to par. Besides, by the 80's, U.F.O. were pretty much washed up past their due date.

With that said, though, I think the cd collection would suffice for U.F.O. beginners. For the novices, I suggest to get all albums on vinyl from 1971-1979. For a place to start, might I suggest my all time favorite classic U.F.O. albums? Well, my suggestions would be: U.F.O. 1(1971), U.F.O. 2 Flying(1972), Force It(1975), Light's Out(1977) and Strangers In The Night (Live 1979).

Other albums from the 70's are good, or passable at best, and can be recommended to those who are already initiated. The above albums are a good place to start, and may end up being the only ones you may ever need to worry about owning if you are just the casual U.F.O. listener. The live album, Strangers In The Night, represents all of their material from the albums that were patchy at best, and is better well documented as a live recording. I am sure some of you, including Brian, might have some other U.F.O favorites that I may have not mentioned, but those are personally my own suggestions........

Vj - the cd hhas more than 32 songs and they are all good and good sounding..
nothing though from the 1st 3 lps..guess it was a legal thing..
but all the others have the key songs and best songs.. its really good..

and of course i have all the ufo lps,, from ufo 1 upto mechnix..thats where i lost interest
in the washed up releases ..

i think by far Obsession is THE BEST ufo lp ever..
including cherry, only you can rock me,i aint no baby, pack it up..and so on..

the live lp is really that tour strangers in the night was the obsession tour..

and add in songs from phenomenon, force it and lights out..its perfect..

the first 3 lps are excellent also ufo 1 is so raw and acid-blues style i love it..

the 1st ufo live is great to..arena rock a la deep purple,scorpions..not to compare..
but just saying a great live band..on the ufos 1st live..which also had mick bolton on guitar..

flying is space rock..i think they were trying to sound like Jane or hawkwind..spacey type
rock with lengthy songs..

Well, sad to say Brian.......

Any U.F.O. collection, whether it be on cd or vinyl, not having ANY material from the first 3 records or so, is not really a very definitive collection. It is for this reason as to why it is best to own the original records sometimes, as they may never come out on cd properly the way they should! At least you know that from the original vinyl records is where the sources come from!

No thanks, personally i think I will just stick to my originals, and if I must own them on cd, I have my vinyl transfers/back-up copies!

well like i said Vj.. most likley the omission of tracks from the 1st lps
is due to the leagal stuff or who owns the rights to the first 3 lps as they are all imports..
.. most people think that phenomenon is the first lp..

Vj there is 1 or 2 compilations of the early stuff on vynil..i believe
on the DECCA label..they go for about 25.00 for a double lp.

im lucky enough to have the canadian ufo 1 on the rare earth label..ive never ever
seen another copy truly a GEM...
also my Flying is on Becon island Uk original press never seen one either..

the live one is on Nova..which is more common..

Hmm, I do think that the second album did make a Rare Earth records release, but may be rare as all get out. Again, if anyone does happen to chance upon ANY of the original vinyl recordings of the first 2 albums, you can consider them lucky!
