I wonder if anyone can tell me where's best to go to find collectors of singles that were sent out to radio stations in the 70's and not meant for sale to the public? Do I need to find specialised collectors - or is there no interest in promos in general? Bo Diddly, Delaney and Bonnie, Van Morrisson are the artistes in question if that helps? Sorry, I'm a complete novice with a pile of records to sort out:)
Demo/promo/test pressings... they are all collectable, but most collectors are artist or genre based, most prize a demo a little more than a standard release. From your perspective.
It sounds like you have a few good names in among those you list and you should be able to sell them, but like anything else, it can take a long time... if you are a novice, it might be easier to go for the quick turn-over and sell direct to your local record dealer... they won't pay you a lot for them, as they may have to sit on them for a long time waiting for the right collector to wander on by.
Your other option is to list on auction sites or build up your collection more and then start selling somewhere like this site.
Hi Jason, thanks for the reply and the information. I know what you mean about selling; what I have is pile of 50 7" vinyls from the 60's/70's, and over the last few days have looked at most of them in terms of value on the 'net, so have a reasonable idea of what they're worth and it's surprisingly not bad. However, like you say,it's selling them. One by one over the net might take forever, and record shops can only give a small proportion of their true worth. From what you've told me of promo's, the 3 I mentioned may be the only ones actually worth going out of my way to sell. The others I'll try with a record store.
