Aphrodite's Child "666" (Vertigo Records, 1972): Which country had the best vinyl pressing?

I am curious to know which country had the best pressing of the Aphrodite's Child album "666" (Vertigo Records, 1972)?

The origin of Aphrodite's Child was from Greece, however, ironically, the Greek pressing didn't even come out in that country until 1974. The reason why I am wondering is because I have never been too thrilled with U.S. pressings of original Euro Progressive or Psych albums, and Aphrodite's Child "666" was also unexceptionally issued here in the States as well.

Other countries where this album was issued besides the U.S. & Greece were: Italy, France, Germany, U.K., Brazil & Japan. The Japanese pressing didn't even see an issue apparently until 1976, however, all of the other pressings are between 1972-1974.

Anyway, so what I would like to know is, if I were to pick a country that had the best quality made vinyl pressing, then what would be the best country to choose from?

To narrow this down, the earliest Aphrodite's Child "666" album pressings that came out on Vertigo in 1972 were from the countries: U.S.A., Italy, U.K, France, Germany & Brazil.

Frankly, I think Brazil would have the worst pressings in my book. The pressings I am not too sure about are Italy & France. I don't think I would care too much for the U.S. pressing, again, in this case, and as I mentioned before, the Japanese pressing came out like almost 4 years later in 1976. So, this leaves the U.K. & Germany.........I wonder which Vertigo pressing would be good between the two of those? Germany or the U.K.?

I have always heard that the German pressings are just as good, if not better at times than the U.K. pressings.

Any help would be appreciative, as anyone's expertise or knowledge on this matter would be very well respected...........

Thanks..........

I have a Canadian pressing of this album from that date by London Records Of Canada Ltd, If I remember right it is a very thick piece of vinyl. My version played very well but I don't really have anything to compare it to. I've always found the German pressing of albums are consistantly good, but it's always like comparing apples and oranges.

Hmm, I think I had to sort of have a go on my own at this, but Craig Moerer Records By Mail, based in Portland, Oregon had a copy on MusicStack for only $35.00 in near mint shape! The German pressing is a second pressing with the Vertigo spaceship record labels, but on the plus side, at least it is still a 70's pressing, so I don't think I have much to complain about.

Thanks for your help, although, like the U.S. pressing, the Canadian pressing is I think still from 1972, so that's pretty cool. I think the second German pressing will suffice..........

There is a brand new audiophile lp edition from the original French master tapes on the Dutch-Greek Missing Vinyl/Music on vinyl labels....it sounds great.

I used to have a later UK press on the Spaceship label and replaced this with a Near Mint Italian 'Swirl'. The Italian press seemed as good as the UK one, to my ears. Both of these had superb audio throughout.

The German pressing is the one to go for.
