I have an original pressing of Abbey Road, but it's warped past playability. And I don't mean there're several small falls and rises, but one giant leap about an inch and a half across along the edge. Other than that, it's pretty good.
Is there any method of flattening it again without affecting the grooves? And if so, how would that change playback?
You might be able to sell the cover if its nice enough -- but the LP is Landfill. Heating it and making a Bowl for keys and and pocket stuff is another option but with that much wobble it will never play right again. When there is that much stretching of the material, there is now square inches of extra material. Hot Vinyl stretches but it does not shrink.
Please refer to the other threads regarding warped records. These will be of much great assistance, but if truth be told, nothing works. Just find another copy of Abbey Road. It is a lot more of a common record than most of the other Beatles albums, and can still be acquired cheaply. Other than that, Mstuf is right, your record is landfill!
