Uploading Inventory Q & A

Here are some common problems and solutions to uploading your inventory on MusicStack.

PROBLEM: File uploads fine, but there are lots of errors listed according to the upload results screen.

SOLUTION: Chances are you have the mappings wrongs for which column is which. For example: If you tell us that Price is your first column, but really your first column is Artist, our system will realize this and not allow non numeric input (ie, prices) to be loaded in and will give you an error.

Check the drop downs on the upload page and make sure that each column corresponds exactly to the columns in your spreadsheet/inventory file. If you select price as being the first column, then make sure price is also first column in your spreadsheet/database. Double check each column like this.

PROBLEM: Inventory file uploads fine, but there are some errors (rejected lines) listed in the upload summary information.

SOLUTION: Chances are you have not mapped your formats to our formats in the system.

For example: If you call a CD 'XYZ', we need to know that! To let us know that you need to place 'XYZ' in the input field next to 'CD'.

PROBLEM: I can't even get the database file to upload at all. I keep getting an error message everytime I go to upload to the system.

SOLUTION: This could be either one of two things.

A) You could be uploading an Excel file that has formatting in it. This is a common reaction excel files that are upload that contain fonts, colors, borders or other excel formatting features. To solve this problem, export your excel file to a tab delimited file and then upload that file to MusicStack, or re-import that tab delimited file back into Excel (hence stripping out all the formatting) and then upload that file to MusicStack.

2) You are running Anti-Virus software or Firewall software and this is preventing your computer from properly uploading to our server. To solve this problem, temporarly disable your anti-virus software or firewall software and then upload to MusicStack. After the upload completes, re-enable your anti-virus software or firewall software.

PROBLEM: Everytime I upload my data file to MusicStack, I get jibberish on the screen or I end up getting all errors.

SOLUTION: Make sure the file you are uploading to MusicStack is either a single sheet Excel file that contains no formatting (fonts, text sizes, colors, borders, etc) or make sure the file you are uploading is a standard delimited text file such as a Tab delimited, CSV/Comma delimited or Pipe delimited file.

PROBLEM: I upload my file and everything looks right, but when I go to search I can't find anything on the site.

SOLUTION: If the file uploads and there are no errors, your file is listed on MusicStack! You are most likely search for it wrong. You must search exactly on the same terms you enter in your spreadsheet. If you are one letter off or if you switch around last name & first this could explain why your listings are not being found when you search on MusicStack. Basically if you can sign into MusicStack and click 'Inventory' and see your listings there, then you can rest assure that your listings are showing up for potential buyers on the system.
