| Rare Vinyl Records are taking over! |
In an era dominated by CDs, MP3s, and digital music, you would probably think that vinyl records have lost its place in the music industry. But to tell you the truth, vinyl records are making a comeback in a big way.
The resurgence of vinyl records has attracted music lovers from all over the world and are one of the most collected items today.
Many times vinyl records are considered a bargain because you can buy a large number of them at very reasonable prices at garage sales, thrift stores and other odd shopping places, so this might be contributing to the rise of people collecting vinyl records.
Also, with the amazing array of cover art found on vinyl records sleeves, they are often times used as artwork and hung on the wall. Additionally, mini posters, photos, legible lyric sheets and original liner notes are all features that draw people back to collecting vinyl records.
Rare vinyl records are increasingly in demand too as most collectors always want to have one-of-a-kind and original pressings that were made in limited editions. Rare vinyl records also allow you to listen to music that you never thought you would have the chance to listen to since limited pressings and live records can sometimes only be found on vinyl.
Lets also not forget that many people find the warmth of vinyl records separates it from CD tracks or digital music. There’s also a sense of nostalgia with old vinyl records. A thrilling feeling knowing that the music you are listening to was the foundation of many different artists music that we’ve been hearing all our lives.
Collectors are also now willing to pay more than ever for records that are genuine and rare. So this tells us that vinyl records are making a return to its throne in the music scene. This rejuvenation has been completely unexpected since digital downloads and digital players such as iPods are on the rise.
Vinyl records are indeed making its mark once again in the music industry. Oh yes!… The trend is clear and its domination is fast approaching! Okay, maybe not total domination, but it is definitely becoming more popular these days.
What are you thoughts? Do you think there is a trend of vinyl records becoming more popular?

I have been in the record business for over 30 years. Now records comprise over 95% of our business, and business is good. I wish Mr. Finster would contact me before he drills a hole in his records :)
I sold off most of my cds and paid for my home, now I have mostly records and I'm pretty happy with it.
Attended the Austin Record Fair, and it took up a building the size for Wall Mart for three days, and when you saw all the money and records being exchanged, you would not have known we are in a recession....
Long live vinyl.

Unless you live on another planet, you know that vinyl has returned. I am amazed at what I hear from the younger crowd, they cannot believe just how good the music sounds (after only hearing the digital music that they grew up with).
Vinyl records will outlive us all, and in 50 years, they may still have the same discussion after the next "new" music medium fails.
Hail Vinyl! |

I for one have always loved vinyl for all the reasons everyone states. I was born 12/13/77 and grew up listening to my parents LP's. I remember playing records to go to sleep with the green lights on my 8track/turntable we picked up at the latest garage sale. I will always be in love with the medium. In addition to the usual comments in favor of vinyl, I think in an age of digital medium the fact that a record is a tactile object we can hold makes it appealing. When we pay money(sometimes to much nowadays) we actually get something in our hands we can see, feel, touch, and even read. Same with the LP itself. It may not be portable, but it is huge, shiny, and looks beautiful spinning on the turntable. It is not meant to be portable. One of the things I enjoy most in life is to set time aside to pull out one of these gems and enjoy the lively sound they produce. I feel sorry for people who say they cannot tell the difference. I really do, it astounds that me they can't. Music is such a huge deal in my life. All through my life it seems the only constant has always been "MY" music. It is the one thing that keeps me going. I think that comes from listening as a youth while staring at the covers. In closing, so I can stop rambling, I also dig the way almost all the old LP's tracks usually faded off with the song still playing into infinity. Like it never ends. Newer music just stops abruptly. Okay I'm Done

I used to enjoy LPs as they sounded great, but the pops and skips were a big let down for me. They invented CX to reduce that, but ended up using them for laserdiscs as LPs started to fade from sight.
Problem isn't so much the sound as that music is maximized for a CD and clips like crazy. If you compress music from when it was recorded in analog format, it compresses better and definitely sounds better. Analog recording sounds more natural than 16-bit audio. 24-bit audio is a big improvement, and Sony's DSD for Super Audio-CD sounded very very good.
One thing that LP won't be able to touch is the ripping to MP3. Although, they have turntables with USB cables now.... all they need to do now is to stop using maximizing techniques and keep the dynamic range of the music better. I'd still like to have 24-bit audio (or better) in 5.1 or 7.1+. If LPs come back, let's hope that cassettes don't come back with them (or God forbid, DCC). |

| Well what about 8-tracks.......maybe this vinyl thing might start the ball rolling...8-tracks were at one time very collectable and hi tech |

I hope 8-tracks don't come back unless they figure out how to rewind those things (or maybe even digitally buffer the 4 channels so you can do that).
The sound was great from them (much better than cassette) as the tracks were far enough apart, but the only thing you could do with those things is to Fast Forward them. Add onto that the fact that if they couldn't get the songs to line up evenly on each channel that you either had wasted space on a channel or the song cut out and continued on the next channel (with a huge gap and a click in between).
