Happy Holidays From MusicStack.com! The 12 Greatest Christmas Songs Ever
Being that it’s that time of year again, I thought we’d take a minute to relax and reflect on some of the greatest holiday songs to date. Without further ado, I present my gift to all of you. My list of The 12 greatest Christmas songs ever

12. Christmas in Hollis (Run DMC – 1987)
Reverend Run and Darryl McDaniels got together to perform this holiday favorite for the 1987 holiday album entitled: A Very Special Christmas. I remember my dad having this album when I was a kid but for some reason, I don’t remember this classic being on it. Instead, my memories are full of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” by John Mellencamp and “Santa Baby” by Madonna. Chills.

11. Santa Claus and His Old Lady (Cheech and Chong – 1971)
Not exactly a song, but always a classic. Say what you will about the declining quality of Cheech and Chong’s movies over the years, but this Christmas story about Santa Claus and his “magic dust” never gets old. If only they could refund me the $8.50 I spent on Corsican Brothers.

10. Chanukah Song (Adam Sandler – 1994, 1999, 2002)
Once again, say what you will about the declining quality of Adam Sandler’s films over the years, but the Chanukah Song is and always will be a must during the holiday season. Ok, so it may not technically be a Christmas song, but any one of the three versions is sure to make you happy. Just be sure you don’t accidentally buy his animated film 8 Crazy Nights.

9. Christmas Don’t Be Late (Alvin and the Chipmunks – 1981)
Enough said.

8. Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella (Manheim Steamroller – 1984)
This little known Christmas classic comes from the Provence region of France. Look no further if you want a beautiful Christmas song.

7. Just a Friend (Biz Markie – 1989)
Not really a Christmas song at all but I just had to throw it in for some reason.

6. Baby It’s Cold Outside (Dean Martin – 1959)
It’s the 50s and Dean Martin is drunk. What else is new? Personally, I liked the version of this song that was sung in the movie Elf between Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel, but what are you gonna do. If you listen in the beginning, you’ll notice that it’s take 15 and Dean-O needs to hurry up because he’s “getting a tattoo later.” Classy!

5. O Christmas Tree (A Charlie Brown Christmas – 1965)
I’m not exactly sure who plays the piano in this version, but I give him or her my ultimate respect. This song can be heard during the Christmas Special, just before Charlie Brown “kills” the tree. Oh Charlie Brown, will you ever win?

4. Mistress For Christmas (AC/DC – 1990)
I couldn’t help myself. Have you heard the new album? Amazing!

3. Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 (Trans Siberian Orchestra – 1995)
TSO’s moving rendition of the Christmas classic “Carol of the Bells” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” The piece describes a lone cello player playing a forgotten Christmas carol in war-torn Sarajevo. Very pretty.

2. Deck the Halls (Manheim Steamroller – 1984)
Before there was Trans Siberian Orchestra, there was Manheim Steamroller and I’ll fight anyone who says that TSO is better. It will go down in history as the lamest reason for a fight ever.

1. My Favorite Things (John Coltrane – 1961)
Coltrane’s version of this classic song lasts over 13 minutes and is simply amazing from start to finish. It wasn’t originally intended to be a Christmas song, but the two have become almost synonymous.
