An ebullient, hippie-esque, soul-obsessed white boy, Thicke has a sweet, airy voice and no real sense of how to apply it profitably. Like an American incarnation of Jamiroquai's Jay Kay, Thicke yelps, grins and aims for Stevie Wonder-like vocal acuity, hitting it on "When I Get You Alone," which samples the Seventies disco classic "A Fifth of Beethoven," and missing it much of the rest of the time.
