The latest talent to emerge from Timbaland's Beat Club is Ms. Jade. But unlike sweetly soulful songbirds Aaliyah and Tweet, Ms. Jade -- named after a character in the Mortal Combat video game -- is a hardcore rapper with a spitfire flow reminiscent of Foxy Brown and fellow Philadelphia filly Eve. As Jade boasts on "She's a Gangsta," her flow is "more powerful than project piss," but Timbaland infuses Girl Intertupted with a flurry of his trademark dance-driven, staccato beats that often dilute the vixen's fiery rap and sound repetitious. Still, the dissonant formula does work on several tracks, as on "Feel the Girl," which sounds like a sequel to Bubba Sparxxx's frenetic "Ugly,"

the beat-box-and-snare-accented "Count It Off," featuring Jay-Z, and the percussive "Big Head," where Jade tempers her battle-ready flow and shows that gangsta girls can be sexy too. Although this hip-hop gem's debut isn't totally polished, Ms. Jade's value is sure to appreciate.
