 Mocean Worker Enter The Mowo
| |
Enter the Mowo, Adan Dorn's fourth album under his Mocean Worker guise, can be read as the producer's graduation from clubland. Where his songs -- made out of samples, loops and live instrumentation -- used to find a heady drum-and-bass rave-style background, they now firmly rely on a swanky, leftfield, jazz template. On "Blackbird," Dorn borrows from Nina Simone, whose vocals are featured tenderly on the quiet composition. Elsewhere he churns out "Right Now," full of spirited trumpets caught in a 1940s groove, the perfect downtempo gem to rival Mr. Scruff's popular single "Get a Move On," (the theme from the slinky Cadillac ads). "I'll Take the Woods" shuffles along a breakbeat vein BT Read More has trodden as it coasts arm in arm with Shivaree vocalist Ambrosia Parsley's innocent murmurs. Having grown up the son of a jazz producer, Dorn does his best work in the genre he's spent a lifetime in. JOLIE LASH (April 5, 2004)
