On her solo debut, Allison, formerly of the Scottish trance outfit One Dove, wraps her angelic voice around blissed-out samples set to loping rhythms, making Afterglow an ideal soundtrack for both solitary reveries and contented post-coital embraces. Neither an oddball pixie like Bj"rk nor a smoky torch singer like Portishead's Beth Gibbons, Allison is more a trip-hop FranÃ§oise Hardy, sounding alternately like the breathy, ingenuous little girl ("Tomorrow Never Comes") or the sultry coquette ("Close Your Eyes").
