 Damone From The Attic

With a seventeen-year-old spitfire named Noelle on vocals and three twentysomething band mates kicking out bright, shiny pop-rock grooves behind her, the debut from these Waltham, Massachusetts, newcomers strikes somewhere between Cheap Trick and Josie and the Pussycats. These eleven songs, most of which were written by guitarist Dave Pino while he was an unlucky-in-love teenager, stick to a tried-and-true formula: starting punchy, then beating you over the head with power chords and a hook-y chorus. Tracks such as "Carwash Romance" attach puppy-love heartbreak to sweet 'n' simple melodies, as Noelle coos about riding BMX bikes to the carwash and getting high with her sweetheart. Nothing you Read More haven't heard before, but charming enough to make you want to hear it again. CHRISTIAN HOARD (From RS 916 , February 20, 2003)
