Bright Eyes One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels
| |
This split EP finds two Omaha, Nebraska, bands making indie-folk prettiness out of all the depression that can befall a twentysomething. Neva Dinova acquit themselves with Gram Parsons-y ballads, but the star, predictably, is Bright Eyes' boy genius Conor Oberst, who's so adept at shambling tunefulness that he can make even levelheaded skeptics want to sing alongwith his emoting about "a comedy so dry and black it makes my stomach hurt." CHRISTIAN HOARD AND JON CARAMANICA (RS 948, May 13, 2004)
This EP is the work of Conor Oberst and Neva Dinova's Jake Bellows. The two switch off on vocals, but the songs flow evenly and Bellow's Read More
twangier pieces sit quite nicely next to Oberst's more emotionally threadbare material. Fans of Bright Eyes will eat this up and hopefully seek out Neva Dinova's great self-titled album.
