Perhaps it's that gem-in-the-rough quality that keeps the converted coming back for more of the thing that Manning does. Whether it's the sparkle-in-the-dust of "I Insist," the old wave beat of "Boston Song," or the loopiness of "Goof On The Roof," it's always the sum of Manning's parts, never one particular thing, that is at the heart of her art.
