1. Review Her big fat tone says it all, as Annie Whitehead leads her b 1. and through nine largely danceable originals. Much of it has a Caribbe 1. an feel, a light touch that possibly reflects the input of co-compose 1. r Ian Maidman, whose guitar, bass, clavinet, and programming appears o 1. n most of the tracks. Whitehead sticks to plush melodic lines and solo 1. s that reflect her highly accessible, tuneful style. The overdubbing o 1. f the trombones effectively adds depth. This is not the best example o 1. f the trombonist's jazz blowing, but overall, she appears in a positiv 1. e light. There are so few examples of fusion-based trombone on disk, b 1. ut Whitehead shows that the trombone can be just as convincing in tha 1. t genre as other horns. The recording is all in good fun, and while no 1. thing here is supremely sophisticated, it all fits well. Whitehead i 1. s the most accomplished soloist in the group; the presence of keyboard 1. ist Jasper van't Hof is welcome, but his contributions are modest by c 1. omparison. Steven Loewy
