Ak1200 - Shoottokill CDs • Vinyl Records • LPs • Music Albums AK1200 - Shoot To Kill AK1200 Shoot To Kill     The combative titles of this artist and his album state, in no uncertain terms: this is a beat assault. As one of North America's top drum 'n' bass DJs, that's to be expected from AK1200. Heavily collaborating with Rob Playford (creator of drum 'n' bass pioneer Goldie's groundbreaking work, Timeless) the production is solid. But it is the non-belligerent tracks on Shoot to Kill that are more intriguing. "Fake" featuring the poppy vocals of Terra Deva, the tuneful "Deja Nu," the melodic "Dawn Raid," the luminous "Seared Rare" and the dubby "Melting Point" are thoughtfully and musically put together. Other bangers featuring obligatory guest appearances from Junior Reid ("Junior's Read More Tune"), Last Emperor ("Contact") and Phife Dawg ("Take You There") are annoyingly noisy and pointlessly raucous. The remainder would be better served on a storming dance floor. Although not mind-blowingly original, Shoot to Kill is a laudable effort in putting together a multi-faceted representation of sounds based in the beats and breaks of drum-and-bass, but not easily listened to in one sitting.
